Habits are extremely valuable if you are able to do them for a long time (preferably forever). They are the compound interest of decision making.
Doing something on daily basis consistently is not easy. It requires to:
- Get started
- Keep going
The keep going part is where most people quit. For a habit to stick around it requires a clear understanding why you’re doing it and a good dose of self discipline. The why is very important here. If you audit yourself and think about why you do what you do, doing it is simple. With no clear why, your self discipline can carry the load for a little longer, but the habit will fade.
The key to successfully keeping your daily habits it choosing wisely which ones you start. If you don’t start, you can’t quit it. Only acquire daily habits you want to have in your life when you’re 70. It will make you think why you want that habit. And then start.
