“I don’t have time for X” is a common phrase. At it’s core it doesn’t express our lack of time but rather what our priorities really are at that moment. “that’s not a priority for me” would be a more accurate statement.

We all have enough time, but only mental room for a limited amount of priorities. (I think of it like RAM slots in the brain. If they’re running at full capacity, you can’t add new stuff to it). When you ask yourself: “do I have time for that?”, your gut feeling will tell you if it’s a priority or not.

Next time someone tells you they don’t have time for something, understand that it’s not a priority for that person. And that’s ok.
